Lorne is a resident Bowen Islander but he is and his band are known far and wide and all across Canada for their feet tapping, hand clapping, heart lifting musical entertainment. Also featured: Bowen's own Deer in the Headlights who will open the night and get the party started!

MC/Auctioneer, Graham Ritchie, will be on hand to entertain us while we make our bids. Even if you lose the bid, we guarantee you will have a grin on your face!

Doors Open 7:00 pm to allow early browsing of auction items. Concert begins 8:00 pm.

The event is of course in celebration of Bowen's furry and feathered friends, and provides a fun, musical way to

Lorne Warr and The Streels!

Lorne has called Bowen Island his home for a few years. In that time he has written a plethora of songs including his song "Back to the Island" chosen as Bowen's "unofficial anthem" during the 2010 Olympics. Originally from Newfoundland he has moved his roots from one rock to another. With The Streels you will be treated to an evening of East Coast Celtic songs, stories, and original music from some of the most respected Celtic Musicians in BC.

The Bio:

A 'streel' is a slovenly person in Newfie-speak, but there's nothing shabby about this east-coast-on-the-west-coast of virtuoso musicians, who sing and play an eclectic repertoire of original, Maritime, and Celtic tunes. Their arrangements are fresh and innovative with a high energy performance that will make you want to dance, sing along and celebrate East Coast style "The Streels flew through the jigs and reels that had the crowd dancing down the midnight hour and the walls of the old pub bulging with good will and whiskey."  Lorne Warr, the front man of The Streels, originally hales from Lewisporte, Newfoundland. He has made music his career for more than a decade and is backed by multi-talented musicians. With guitars, mandolins, accordions, fiddles, and songs that will make you kick up your feet or want to hold your loved ones close, there is something in their music for everyone. The Streels have performed in festivals, for corporate events and various radio shows including the CBC program North by Northwest with Sheryl McKay "The first time I heard The Streels, I was struck by their energy, their great sound, their love of the music and the fun they were having playing together." More reviews of The Streels include "Your warmth and enthusiastic rapport with the audience created an evening of superb enjoyment", "Thanks again for what was clearly a wonderful show on Saturday. The fact that the audience shouted for "more" even after your encore speaks to how well you were received"
Comfortable on any type of stage and venue, The Streels always bring their East Coast charm to any event "it was a grand kitchen party Newfie style." With an album, A Night on the Marge, under their recording belts, The Streels continue to write, arrange, perform, and to follow the most important part of the Newfoundland musical tradition -- to have fun! "Sociable!!!!!!!!!!!"

The Musicians:

Lorne Warr ~ Singer, Songwriter, Multi Instrumentalist.

Lorne Warr was born and bred in Lewisporte, Newfoundland, and currently resides on Bowen Island, BC -- from one Rock to another. His intricate guitar playing and velvet baritone vocals-- coupled with his songwriting and gift of telling stories that travel from one side of Canada to the other, is what modern folk is all about. A multi talented veteran performer he is the front man for The Streels and performs as a solo singer songwriter at festivals, community concert series and a venue near you. Lorne is always known to bring his Newfoundland charm and the East Coast tradition of kicking yer heels up and having a grand time!

Jennie Bice ~ Fiddle and Vocals

Fiddler, violinist, singer, composer, educator – Jennie Bice is at home in many musical genres. From frenzied boot-stomping Irish craic, country & eastern, roots and rhythm styles, to world fusion, jazz and blues. Jennie possesses a genuine warmth, and boundless enthusiasm. She shines on every stage she meets. Jennie is currently recording and performing with Lori Paul, Boris Sichon, Prydwen, Copper Sky, Black Door Slam and The Streels.

Brendan Rideout ~ Bass and Vocals

Feeling the need to explore new musical territory, and also to escape the harsh Ontario winters, Brendan made the move to Vancouver, and was soon playing and singing with a veritable who's-who of the Celtic music scene there, including The Paperboys, Fear Of Drinking, The Streels,The Town Pants and members of Spirit Of The West, as well as recording and performing with many different Pop, Folk and Roots projects.  At various times, he's also supplemented his music career with occupations such as actor and voice over artist.

Deer in the Headlights... "Something for everyone. Songs you had forgotten that you love".
Our eclectic band of singers and musicians came together on Bowen Island in 2007, and we still have two original members...

Candice Kabantsov is our versatile lead singer and can turn her hand to rhythm guitar too. Marc Gawthrop adds his vocal expertise and plays amazing keyboards. Doug Hillhouse plays extraordinary lead guitar and Susanna Braund provides a solid foundation on her bass guitar and (occasionally) bass ukelele. We all do backing vocals and harmonies.

We all write songs both individually and collectively. We are currently honing half a dozen songs written collectively, including 'Bring Back My Soul' (a heartfelt soul song), a blues number called 'Sister Don't Leave Me Alone', a pretty song in Bb called 'Save The World', another that uses the Phrygian mode, called 'I Want More', and an etherial piece called 'One Thing On My Mind'.

Candice has recorded a CD of her originals, in English and in French. Susanna's originals include the silly boy-loves-girl pop song 'My Mathematical Girl' and a wistful pop ballad 'You Are a Dreamer'. Doug Hillhouse has written a cool segue from a powerful rock song 'Stephanie' into the indescribable 'Aqua Velva Man'. Marc Gawthrop's trademark in his originals is his full arrangement of swirling harmonies in 'Where Will It Lead?" and 'San Jo', the latter a joyful song inspired by a beloved location on his native Vancouver Island.

Our range of cover songs is extraordinarily wide, roaming through all musical genres and from the 50s to the late 90s, with a leaning towards blues, jazz, rock and pop. Candice offers lead vocals on 'The Thrill Is Gone', 'Stormy Monday', 'Autumn Leaves', 'Love Sneaking Up On You' (a Bonny Raitt song), 'Rikki Don't Lose That Number', Patsy Cline's 'Sweet Dreams', Nina Simone's 'Since I Fell' and many more. Marc fronts for Led Zeppelin's 'Ramble On', 'Runaway', 'Burning Love', 'Here Comes My Baby' and 'Into The Mystic' and others. Doug sings lead on RaùlMalo's 'Just Want To Dance the Night Away' and 'All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down' as well as the Stones' 'Dead Flowers' and Neil Young's new version of 'Oh Susannah'. Susanna introduces 'I Only Want To Be With You'. The Doors, The Moody Blues, The Beatles, The Beachboys, Stealers Wheel, Van Morrison, Tom Petty. The list goes on...

Something for everyone. Songs you had forgotten that you love.
